It&amp;rsquo;s a recipe for trouble.&#xA;That&amp;rsquo;s why we don&amp;rsquo;t mess around with the glass in our infrared towel rails. We use explosion-proof quartz.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;Why the fancy glass?&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;Think about this: you&amp;rsquo;ve got a heating element screaming hot, and suddenly, a single cold drop of water hits it. With cheap glass, that&amp;rsquo;s a one-way ticket to a shattered tube.&#xA;Our quartz is tempered and high-purity, meaning it can handle those wild temperature swings without freaking out. When we say &amp;ldquo;explosion-proof,&amp;rdquo; we just mean the tube is tough enough to hold its own and not pop when things get intense.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;How the heat actually works&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;These heaters use short-wave infrared. Instead of trying to warm up all the air in the room—which takes forever—the heat goes straight into the fibers of your towel. It&amp;rsquo;s a much more direct kind of warmth.&#xA;Inside the tube, we use a halogen fill. This is a neat little trick that keeps the tungsten filament from burning out too fast by recycling the evaporated metal back onto the wire. It basically gives the bulb a much longer life.&#xA;But a quick heads-up: your wiring needs to be up to the task. These tubes pack a lot of heat into a small space. Steam loves to eat away at metal. Most of the time, when a heater fails, it&amp;rsquo;s because the contact points have oxidized.&#xA;To stop that from happening, we stick with gold-plated or nickel-plated terminals. They just don&amp;rsquo;t corrode like the cheap stuff.&#xA;One last thing to keep in mind: the quartz tube is incredibly strong, but the seals at the ends? Those are the weak spots. If a seal lets go, moisture gets in, hits the filament, and &lt;em&gt;pop&lt;/em&gt;—there goes your lamp.&#xA;So, when you&amp;rsquo;re shopping or installing, don&amp;rsquo;t just look at the tube. Check the IP rating of the whole fixture. That&amp;rsquo;s what actually keeps the water out.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
