
Why We Torture Our Bathroom Heaters (And Why You Should Care)
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are basically death traps for electronics. You’ve got thick steam, constant humidity, and the occasional stray splash of water. It’s a nightmare for any piece of hardware. We don’t just hope our infrared lamps will survive that environment. We don’t “guess.” Instead, we put them through wet-heat aging tests. Basically, we try to break them on purpose so they don’t break in your customer’s home. The problem with moisture water vapor is sneaky. It finds the tiniest gaps in seals and connectors that you can’t even see. When a drop of moisture hits a scorching hot quartz tube, it can cause thermal shock. That means the glass cracks. Instant failure. But the real danger is what happens inside the wiring. Humidity seeps in, causes oxidation, and creates these little electrical paths where they shouldn’t be. That’s how you end up with a blown fuse or, worse, a short circuit. How we actually test them We don’t just turn the heater on and call it a day. We put every batch through a brutal cycle of temperature spikes and heavy humidity. We bake them in saturated steam, then we kill the power. This lets condensation settle deep inside the internals, which is exactly what happens when someone finishes a hot morning shower and turns off the lights. While they’re in there, we’re looking for a few things: ***Leaking current:**Is the electricity staying where it belongs? ***The gaskets:**Are the waterproof seals warping or shrinking under the heat? ***The connectors:**Are they starting to pit or rust? The trade-off Here’s the thing: making something truly waterproof adds a bit of bulk. To get a proper seal, we have to use thicker gaskets and reinforced housings. This means the unit is a little bigger, and it might take a few extra seconds to reach full heat compared to a cheap, open-air heater. It’s a small price to pay. You trade a couple of seconds of warm-up time for a product that won’t die after six months of steam. If you go with a heater that hasn’t been through this kind of aging process, you’re just waiting for the return emails to start piling up. Plus, it’s just not worth the safety risk.
