
Keeping the Heat, Losing the Glare
Most infrared lamps are basically light cannons. They blast out a wide spectrum, including that harsh, high-intensity blue light that makes you squint. In a bathroom, that’s a problem. It strains your eyes, and if you’ve got a baby in the tub, it’s way too intense for their sensitive retinas. We figured out a better way. We filter the light so you get the warmth without the blinding flash.
How we handle the light
We put a special coating on the quartz glass to block out those short-wave blue tones. This isn’t about making it look pretty—it’s about where the energy goes. By pushing back the visible light, we can concentrate all that power into the infrared band. The result? You feel the heat on your skin immediately, but you aren’t staring into a spotlight. Inside, we use a halogen-filled quartz tube. This lets us crank up the filament temperature while keeping everything stable. It creates a “soft” glow. It keeps the room cozy and warm, but stays gentle enough for a baby’s eyes.
A few things to keep in mind
Since we’re prioritizing eye protection, these aren’t meant to light up your whole room. They’re heat tools, not ceiling fixtures. You’ll notice they aren’t as bright as a standard bulb, but that’s by design. When you’re installing them, check your reflectors. Make sure they’re polished aluminum. If they’ve oxidized or gotten cloudy, the heat won’t throw in the right direction. You’ll end up running the lamps longer just to feel the warmth, and that’s a fast track to burning them out.
Dealing with the steam
Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. All that humidity loves to find a way in. To stop this, we use sealed connectors to keep moisture away from the filament. Here’s the catch: if that seal fails, the halogen gas leaks out and the filament will pop in a matter of hours. To keep things running smoothly, just stick to the recommended voltage. Don’t overstress the quartz, and your heater will last much longer.
