You know those old-school bathroom heat lamps? The ones with the bright halogen bulbs? They’re a pain. Most of the time, they just burn out. Steam and moisture sneak into the fixture, mess with the wiring, and suddenly you’re staring at a dead bulb on a freezing January morning. It’s frustrating, and honestly, it’s a bit outdated. That’s why we’ve started moving toward high IP-rated infrared wall heaters instead. It’s all about how the heat actually hits you. Here’s the thing: old heaters try to warm up the air. But in a bathroom, the air just disappears through the vents or under the door. You’re basically heating the hallway. Infrared is different. It doesn’t care about the air. It sends heat straight to your skin and the floor. The second you flip the switch, you feel it. No waiting around for the room to “warm up”—you just feel that instant glow. To make these things last, they need a high “IP rating”—which is just a fancy way of saying they’re tightly sealed. We put the heating elements inside quartz glass tubes and wrap the whole thing in a chassis that won’t rust. This keeps the water droplets far away from the electrical parts. Without a solid seal (look for IPX4 or IPX5), you’re just asking for a short circuit. Nobody wants that. A few things to keep in mind for the install Switching to a wall-mounted system isn’t a “plug and play” deal. You’ve got to think about your power. These units pull a decent amount of juice, and you don’t want to trip the breaker every time you take a shower. I usually suggest a dedicated circuit just to be safe. Then there’s the placement. If you mount the heater too high, the heat doesn’t reach you. If you put it too low, you’re going to splash water right on the lens. It’s a bit of a balancing act, but once you nail the height, it’s a total luxury.
